Piano

  1. Select two pieces representing different periods and styles.

  2. All works must be performed by memory in the Divisions.

  3. Age cut off date is April 30, 2024.

  4. Within reason, works should avoid repeats.

  5. No changes to the competition program are permitted once the application form has been received.

  6. The decisions of the Jury are final and not subject to review or appeal.

  7. The Jury is permitted to award the same numerical ranking to several

  8. contestants. In the event of a tie, the Jury may divide the monetary prize equally between the prizewinners.

  9. Performer should bring the original copy of repertoires in their performance.

    Division and Time Limit
    ● Division I Age 7 and under: Time limit 4 minutes
    ● Division II Age 8 and under: Time limit 4 minutes
    ● Division III Age 9 and under: Time limit 5 minutes
    ● Division IV Age 10 and under: Time limit 5 minutes
    ● Division V Age 11 and under: Time limit 5 minutes
    ● Division VI Age 12 and under: Time limit 6 minutes
    ● Division VII Age 13 and under: Time limit 7 minutes
    ● Division VIII Age 14 and under: Time limit 8 minutes
    ● Division IX Age 15 and under: Time limit 8 minutes
    ● Division X Age 16 and under: Time limit 10 minutes
    ● Division XI Age 18 and under: Time limit 12 minutes


 

Vocal: Classical

Choose one selection from Group A and Group B* in contrasting style. You may cut the
accompaniment to meet the time limit.
If it is longer than the suggested time, the judges
might cut your performance short to meet the time limit.

● You could cut the long piano part to fit in the time frame.

● All original scores or sheet music purchased online and downloaded/printed must be accompanied by a receipt. These are required.

● Vocal participants must provide their own accompanist. Teachers may not accompany their vocal students.

 

Section I : Age 8 and under (6 minutes)
A. One English Art song or folk song
B. One English Art song


Section II : Age 9-10 (6 minutes)
A. One English song by a British or American composer

B. Any classical Italian art song from the 17th or 18th Century


Section lll : Age 11-12 (8 minutes)
A. One English song by a British or American composer
B. Any classical Italian art song from the 17th or 18th Century


Section lV : Age 13-14 (8 minutes)
A. One classical art song in any language (original language)
B. One English song by a British or American composer


Section V : Age 15 -16 (8 minutes)
A. One classical art song in any language (original language)
B. One English song by a British or American composer


Section Vl : Age 17-18 (10 minutes)
A. One classical art song in any language
B. (1) An Oratorio Aria or an aria from the standard operatic repertoire in the original
language and key. (2) One French art song or lied in the original language.


Section VIl : Age 19-22 (10 minutes)
A/B. Any classical repertoire. ( Should include at least one Opera aria in the original key and
the language it’s written in)

Section VIII : Age 21 and above (12 minutes)
A/B. Any classical repertoire. ( Should include at least one Opera aria in original key and the
language it’s written in)

Vocal: Musical Theater

Please be prepared with an age-appropriate two contrasting songs from this list of musical theater shows or anything from "The Singer’s Musical Theater Anthology," "The Musical Theater Anthology for Teens,” "The First Book of Broadway Solos,” "The Kids Broadway Book,” “The Big Book of Broadway” by Hal Leonard Publishing, or “Broadway
Showstoppers” by Hal Leonard Publishing.

 

Singers may also want to choose works by the following composers: Irving Berlin, Stephen, Flaherty, George Gershwin, Jerry Herman, Frank Loesser, Alan Menken, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Schwartz, Charles Strouse, or Jules Styne (you are not
limited to these composers).


Again, there is so much new literature coming out regularly that we ask that you use your
discretion in choosing repertoire in the older categories. If you have any questions about
appropriate repertoire, check with the Chairman.

Strings + Piano Chamber

  1. At least 2 and up to 5 members in the chamber music ensemble

  2. 2 members in a group (Duo) must be Strings Only. For ex. Violin & Cello or Violin & Viola

  3. 3 to 5 members in a group can be Strings only or Strings + Piano

  4. Memorization is NOT required.

  5. Section is determined by age of the oldest member in a group.

  6. Repertoire must be chosen from the standard literature, and should demonstrate excellent musicianship and proper technique.

  7. No changes in repertoire are allowed following submission of the application

  8. All members of the group can use an original copy or a photocopy of sheet music from public domain.

  9. At least ONE copy of music needs to be given to the judges and photocopy is allowed. 

  10. Proof of Age is required (birth certificate or passport). Please have the information before proceeding with the application. 


TIME LIMITS

● Section I Age 8 and under - Time limit 6 minutes 

● Section II Age 10 and under - Time limit 7 minutes 
● Section III Age 13 and under -  Time limit 8 minutes
● Section IV Age 16 and under - Time limit 9 minutes
● Section V Age 19 and under - Time limit 10 minutes

 


 

Strings

  • Memorization is REQUIRED.

  • Each entrant must provide his or her own accompanist.

  • Repertoire must be chosen from the standard literature and should demonstrate excellent musicianship and proper technique.

  • Only ONE movement or ONE piece is required.

  • Cut is allowed however it needs to be clearly marked in the original score for the judges.

  • No change in the repertoire is allowed following submission of the application

  • At least ONE ORIGINAL Score needs to be given to the judges.

  • Accompanists are allowed to use a photocopy of the original score or the music from the public domain. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

  • Taking pictures or video recording is NOT allowed inside the competition room. 

  • Judges decision is FINAL

Division and Time Limit

  4. Each ensemble should present TWO contrasting pieces.

  5. Repertoire may be freely chosen and should demonstrate excellent musicianship and proper technique.

  6. No changes in repertoire are allowed following submission of the application

  7. All members of the group must use original (not photocopied) sheet music

  8. Use the Classical Guitar Division Application for Solo Guitar Applications

TIME LIMITS:
● Section I Age 7 and under: Time limit 3 minutes
● Section II Age 8 - 10:  Time limit 5 minutes

Woodwinds

  1. Memorization is required.

  2. Only one piece OR one movement of a multi-movement work is required.(ex: one movement of a standard concerto, sonata, or a concert-piece).

  3. Repertoire must be chosen from the standard literature, and should demonstrate excellent musicianship and proper technique.

  4. No cutting or rearranged the music is permitted, except for the piano part.

  5. No changes in repertoire are allowed following submission of the application.

  6. Each entrant must provide his or her own pianist.

TIME LIMITS:

● Section I Age 11 and under: Time limit 5 minutes

● Section II Age 12-13:  Time limit 5 minutes

● Section III Age 14-15:  Time limit 8 minutes

● Section IV Age 16-18:  Time limit 10 minutes

● Section V Age 19-21:  Time limit 10 minutes
